It all started with my own search for a natural mascara that really worked.  I must have tried at least four and spent around eighty bucks before I found one that I thought was worthy.  Then I wanted an organic lipstick and some natural eyeliner. I found plenty of companies who were making safer products, but for every three I tried, I found one I liked.

What I encountered on my personal search for safer products was a lack of basic information and a tedious process to identify which products met my safety standards. I became frustrated at not being able to find effective beauty products free from parabens, phthalates, sodium laurel sulfate, urea (which I'm pretty sure comes from pee), petroleum products, and other strange ingredients that I didn't think belonged on my face. 

When I finally found products that met my safety standards, I discovered that most of them didn't work nearly as well as the department store brands. It took me a long time to get rid of my conventional makeup collection. I had worked hard to find each piece of it, and I had a bit of nostalgia for some key things, like my cult fave mascara. I was determined to replace all of my makeup with safer products.  And so I embarked on a process of trying natural makeup like it was my part time job.  Eventually, I was able to replace my entire makeup collection with natural and organic makeup. 

I wished there was a website that had done the work for me, that could point me to exceptional products that were safe and natural.  I just wanted what I think everyone deserves: safe ingredients, superior products, a variety of styles, and fair prices.  I started to think about what it would take to create such a website, and a seed was planted.
